As I approached 50, I got nervous about not making it to 50.

It started at a routine doctor's visit, when I asked about perimenopause.  My doctor casually mentioned the old wives' tale: that your mother's experience is usually a reference point for your own.  The problem was, my mother didn't make it to 50.  She died before she got there.

That one comment cracked something open. I started spiraling into panic, anxiety, the fear of dying taking hold of my mind.  I didn't want to leave my daughters.  I didn't want to leave my sister, who was still here at the time.  I didn't want to leave this life, complicated as it was.  My doctor may have meant it lightly, but the weight of those words stayed with me.

I started seeing a behavioral therapist.  And in those sessions, I found myself doing the thing that helped most: telling my stories.

So when I turned 50, I created Liberian Girl Unfiltered, a podcast about my life lived across two countries, Liberia and the U.S.  My second episode centered on Waiting to Exhale by Terry McMillan, the book and film.  A friend suggested I lean into what I've always loved: music, movies, books, and let it carry the stories and lessons I'd been sitting with.  That idea became the heartbeat of the show.

Liberian Girl Unfiltered is where culture meets confidence, where faith meets real life, and where truth is told, no filter.

Each episode blends the movies that shaped us and the songs that speak to us with the real, unscripted stories of a life lived between two worlds.  I'm sharing what it's really been like growing up between Liberia and America, building businesses from the ground up, raising a family, navigating grief, embracing faith, and stepping fully into my soft life era, all while staying grounded in purpose and legacy.

This is more than a podcast.  It's a space for real conversations, shared experiences, and unapologetic growth where a movie scene or a song lyric becomes the doorway into a deeper story.
